Lina’s Y Story

Lina

Meet Lina, a Fitness Instructor at Stoney Creek Community Centre, YMCA & Library!

"'I joined Stoney Creek Y very soon after it opened. I had 2 arthritic knees, but it was important to me to keep active, strengthening my legs for eventual knee replacements. Deep water Aquafit was the best activity, but I also loved Power and Centergy. Instructors were so supportive, helping me modify the workouts for my painful knees. The result: I had 2 knee replacements and now I am a Y instructor!

I am a retired teacher and I taught Gr. 7/8 classroom at the end of my career. Instructing at the Y allows me to use my P.E. and coaching skills. As an aquatic fitness instructor, I meet many participants with knee and hip issues. I know I give them hope for improvement in their own mobility. I encourage all of them to keep moving and modify their activities appropriately.

Additionally, Stoney Creek Y is situated just down the road from my childhood home. We lived in the country on a very quiet road surrounded by woods. My first Centergy class in the downstairs studio made me quite emotional. The view from those big windows looked out into my childhood “backyard!”

There is Potential Inside All of Us: Have you been impacted by a program or service at the Y? You are part of a charity that touches millions of lives and makes a real difference in communities. Please submit your Y story here and we’ll be in touch with some Y swag as a thank you for sharing!
