Youth Centre Opens: A New Hub for Fun, Growth, and Community Connection!

Youth Centre

The Komoka Youth Centre officially opened with a ribbon-cutting event on September 13, 2024. The celebration saw Mayor Aina DeViet, Councillor Sue Cates, staff from Middlesex Centre and the Middlesex Centre YMCA, and local families gather to mark the occasion. The new centre, a collaboration between the municipality and the YMCA, aims to provide youth-focused programming for young people.

The youth centre offers drop-in and specialized programs for ages 9 to 17. It serves as a place for youth to socialize, play games, and develop new skills. Soyuth Sok, VP of Health, Fitness & Aquatics at the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario, said the centre creates a safe, engaging space for young people to connect and thrive through activities like gaming, sports drop-ins, art classes, and leadership training. The partnership aligns with the YMCA’s mission to promote youth development and strengthen communities.

Funded by the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative, the centre at 133 Queen Street, Komoka, received support to foster safer, more inclusive spaces. Drop-in programs began September 16, 2024, and will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 6 - 9pm. These sessions are free, though youth under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
