Meet Art Stirling

Art by the Pool

We’re delighted to introduce Art Stirling as the Y’s new Development Officer. Art is serving our generous donors in Chatham, Sarnia and St. Thomas.

Q: Hi Art – welcome to the YMCA! Tell us: what’s your favourite thing about your hometown of Chatham-Kent?
A: Thank you for the welcome. I grew up on a family farm near Rondeau Provincial Park, south of Blenheim. I witnessed firsthand the love of community, the commitment to neighbours, and the tremendous work ethic of my parents. The many communities that make up Chatham-Kent are full of folks just like them. That’s true right across the region – people who love the land, care about each other, and rally whenever support is needed. Having lived and travelled elsewhere, this area is among the most generous I’ve ever encountered.

Q: What’s your favourite thing about the Y?
A: The people I’ve met are amazing. So much youthful energy and passion. The impact of the facilities, programs and services offered, uniquely tailored to each community’s needs, is life-changing. The focus on children, youth, seniors, newcomers, those recovering from illness or surgery – not to mention the health and wellness of us all, regardless of our ability to pay – is inspirational. While I’ve always known and appreciated the association, I never fully realized just how critical the Y is in our area’s charitable landscape.

Q: What do you love about being a fundraiser?
A: Giving back has always been a key value of mine. I served eight years on Chatham-Kent council, and at different times led fundraising campaigns for the United Way of Chatham-Kent, the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent and the Chatham-Kent Animal Shelter. I love the feeling of helping my community move forward with positivity and with compassion, and of course the personal sense of accomplishment that comes with doing your best and making a difference.
