Jerry McCaw Family Centre YMCA Receives a $150,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant

On June 28, the Jerry McCaw Family Centre YMCA held a celebration and plaque presentation to mark an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant that will enable renovations to improve the building’s infrastructure. Present along with Kathi Lomas McGee, Senior Vice President Operations, YMCA of Southwestern Ontario, were local MPP Bob Bailey, and local City Councillor Brian White. Together with YMCA members, donors and staff, they congratulated the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario and heard how the OTF Capital grant will improve the building and will help the Y to continue providing impactful programs and services to the Sarnia region community.

The grant will enable the YMCA to replace the main cooler tower as well as rooftop heating and ventilation servicing the facility’s change rooms, aerobic studio, and fitness centre. These critical upgrades will increase energy efficiency as well as improve the comfort and health and safety of members and staff. Over the course of a year, the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario will be investing $1.3 million into capital upgrades at the Jerry McCaw Family Centre (JMFC). The JMFC YMCA serves 7,700 local Y members each year and is the only accessible facility where community members can participate in programs regardless of their financial circumstances. Thanks to the $150,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, people of all ages and abilities will be able to access the JMFC YMCA to participate in programs that improve their mental, physical and social health and wellness.
