Jordan’s Run the Runway 5K Series

Jordan’s Run the Runway, presented by Siskinds LLP, is back and bigger than ever! This one-of-a-kind 5K run, walk, roll, or pole has been growing since 2014, and now you can experience it at FOUR airport locations across Southwestern Ontario.

This incredible series honours the life and legacy of Jordan Strickland, whose passion for YMCA Camp Queen Elizabeth (CQE) and demonstration that every kid deserves to have a good life in their community through opportunities like CQE have inspired over $1,230,000 in fundraising during the past 11 years. Proceeds from the London event support sending kids to CQE and some CQE capital costs, through the Jordan Strickland Family Fund, while funds raised in St. Thomas-Elgin, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia-Lambton stay local - providing more people with access to YMCA camps, programs, and services that create lasting, life-changing experiences.

Whether you participate in person or virtually, Jordan’s Run the Runway is an unforgettable event for all ages and abilities. Don’t miss this chance to run the runway and make a difference!

About Jordan

Jordan

Jordan loved new adventures, and he was not afraid to try anything. One of the things he loved most in life was going to YMCA Camp Queen Elizabeth on Beausoleil Island, where he attended many summers as a camper, and nine years as a volunteer counsellor.

CQE terrain is not what would be considered easy to traverse, and was a challenge to Jordan’s mobility, but he always managed to get anywhere he needed to with the support of the many amazing young men and women there. It is doubtful that he missed any opportunities and his enthusiasm was contagious! Rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, body surfing on the rapids, hiking, swimming, out tripping…. he looked forward to and was a part of all of it. Because of the Y’s and CQE's inclusive philosophy, Jordan and others who may have physical or other challenges have always been welcomed to share the same awesome camp experience as any other kid, with whatever support it takes to make that happen. Many, many children and future camp leaders who couldn’t typically afford to go are supported by the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign to attend CQE, and we want this to continue as part of Jordan’s story for many years to come. Jordan would be turning 39 this year, and we are so grateful for the many friends he met over the years, and who he introduced to us. Thank you so much for Running the Runway to remember our amazing Jordan, and also for his CQE and Siskinds families and friends.
- Janice, Paul, and Daniel Strickland

About Siskinds

Siskinds LLP is extremely proud to sponsor Jordan’s Run the Runway. Jordan touched all of us in his 27 years, was a good friend to many and a beloved part of the Siskinds Family. It is our privilege to help bring this event in honour of him to life. Jordan showed us that nearly all challenges can be overcome through friendship and community support and at Siskinds, we are keenly aware that we achieve nothing on our own. We are proud members of the Southwestern Ontario community. We thrive on our relationships with our clients and the businesses we work with. We are made stronger by each connection we build.

YMCA of Southwestern Ontario believes that every person holds an inner light and potential just waiting to shine. As a charity, the Y is there to ignite that potential in people, helping them overcome obstacles and make lasting, positive change in their lives. At Siskinds, we believe one of our community’s greatest assets is the Y, and particularly YMCA Camp Queen Elizabeth.

We can’t think of a more fitting organization to benefit from this event. Jordan was a regular at the Y and as he grew older, a volunteer and staff member at YMCA Camp Queen Elizabeth. He was a determined athlete who overcame obstacles to complete many races in his life.

Thank you for joining us and we hope you enjoy the event(s) and as you participate, please take a moment to remember Jordan, how he contributed to our lives, to our community, and how we can build on that together.

These events would not have been possible without our amazing supporters and sponsors - please consider getting involved! Contact Stephanie Couwenberghs at runtherunway@swo.ymca.ca for more information about sponsorship.
