Peace Award Winners Announced - Join us for Breakfast!
From November 17-24, the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario is celebrating Peace Week. This is a time when we recognize and celebrate those who are making meaningful contributions in our community that contribute to more peaceful societies. To us, peace extends beyond the absence of violence. Peace encompasses many of the values that we firmly believe in at the Y: empathy, inclusion and diversity, community engagement, respect for others, and kindness.
As part of this week, we will be hosting our first Peace Week Breakfast in London, where three individuals or groups will be awarded Peace Medals for their amazing contributions to the community. We will also be hosting our second annual Peace Week Breakfast in Windsor. We are so excited and proud to present these honours to the following:
- Dr. Christopher Mackie (London)
- Brian O’Reilly (London)
- 4 Sisters 4 Kids Fundraiser (London)
- Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative
All are welcome to attend and enjoy these complimentary breakfasts, while we hear about our amazing award winners and gift them with their medallions.
The London Peace Breakfast will be held on November 23 in the ballroom at the YMCA in Wortley Village – 165 Elmwood Avenue East, London, Ontario. Doors open at 7:30am, with the program running from 8am - 9am. Please RSVP to Jared Roberts at jroberts@ymcawo.ca
The Windsor Peace Breakfast will be held on November 21 at the YMCA of Windsor and Essex County, 500 Victoria Street, Windsor, Ontario. Doors open at 7:30 am, with the program running from 8am - 9am. Please RSVP to Gerardo DeRose at gderose@ymcawo.ca
We will also be celebrating the week with some fun items in branches, child care sites, and on social media! Swing by your local branch to sign the Peace Week banners, letting us know what peace means to you. And follow along on social media, where we’ll share daily peace challenges for every day of the week. We can’t wait to see and hear all about your actions for peace.
Remember: all actions for peace make a difference. Even the smallest action – for instance, a compliment – can create a huge ripple of positivity, change, and peace.
