2016 AWARD SPONSORS

Bellavance Family
The Bellavance Family Award was born of the desire to bring awareness and to give hope to young adolescents who are currently struggling with mental illness and who strive to want to be in "a better place" both mentally and emotionally.  The Bellavance's have experienced firsthand,  the pain and suffering associated with mental illness and the challenges and obstacles young people face in the struggle to overcome the barriers and stigmas associated with mental illness.

CineSarnia

Cinesarnia
Several local secondary school teachers have been responsible for the creation and development of cineSarnia as a way of bringing Sarnia-Lambton a variety of widely-acclaimed motion pictures that would not normally appear at local theatres. The outstanding success of this venture, and their commitment to the development of the talents of young people led cineSarnia to sponsor the Creativity Award.

K.Eileen Wilson Award
This award is given in memory of Kirk Wilson's wife, Eileen. She was an educator with a special focus on youth who required additional personal attention in order to fully develop their full potential as individuals. She spent her energy and expertise in working with special needs youth either individually or in a small group setting. She also had a life long interest in community outreach and international development in developing countries. She served with numerous local charities as well as her church. Eileen was a Board member of the Sarnia YMCA and was instrumental in helping set up the Annual Peace Prize , the annual Poinsettia sales and the International Partnership with the Thailand YMCA in Chang Mai.

McMurray Family Award
This award is sponsored by Jim McMurray. Jim McMurray has served the YMCA for many years in a number of capacities. He served two terms on the Board of Directors and has been involved in many sub-committees, including the Scholarship Selection Committee. Jim is a successful businessman, a self-starter, and an advocate of hard working students.

Ray Curran
For many years Ray Curran has supported a wide variety of activities (visual art, music, poetry, literature) that have enhanced the cultural life of the Sarnia-Lambton community. His sponsorship of the Arts & Culture Award enables many Lambton County students the opportunity to pursue their areas of interest at college or university.  (Ray created this award in memory of his late wife Stefanie).

Rotary Club of Sarnia
The Rotary Club of Sarnia is a not-for-profit corporation that promotes world understanding through international humanitarian service programs and educational and cultural exchanges. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today’s most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development. The Rotary Club of Sarnia is the proud sponsor of the International Ambassador Award.

Sarnia-Lambton Business Development Corporation
Sarnia Lambton Business Development Corporation has been a consistent sponsor of the Entrepreneurship Award for several years. They promote and encourage the development of business opportunities within the wider community of Sarnia-Lambton.

Sarnia-Lambton Federal Liberal Association (SLFLA)
The Sarnia-Lambton Federal Liberal Association is a group of dedicated individuals committed to a democratic process as one of many ways to give back to our community and country. We recognise that all citizens have a right and responsibility to participate in a society that is equitable, inclusive and caring, and that showing leadership in building respect and cooperation toward those ends is essential to maintaining a quality future for all Canadians.

Sarnia-Lambton Workforce Development Board
One of the main initiatives of the Workforce Development Board is to promote and support apprenticeship in a wide variety of trades. Their sponsorship of our Apprenticeship Award encourages young adults from local high schools and college to investigate the many benefits of apprenticeship training and enroll in an apprenticeship program.

Social Services Network of Sarnia-Lambton
Social service groups touch virtually all aspects of life
in Sarnia-Lambton, including basic necessities like food, shelter and clothing, as well as human rights, environment, health, faith, culture, sports and recreation.  The member agencies that make up the Social Services Network of Sarnia-Lambton (SSNSL) bring their knowledge, expertise and compassion in working with communities and individuals to make Sarnia Lambton a better place in which to live, work and play.

St. Clair Auto Repair
We’re proud supporters of our community, which is why we have offered a post-secondary scholarship through the YMCA for the past several years. We’re also a charitable contributor, and we’re a proud support of minor sports in Sarnia. Our community has kept us in business for more than 52 years, and we’re pleased to pay it back.

 Steeves & Rozema Group

Steeves & Rozema Group
Creating communities that are good for life:

The Steeves & Rozema Group creates communities that are good for life, developing, owning, and managing retired communities, long-term care homes, and commercial and multi-residential properties.  Our success is based on the creation of communities where residents, tenants and employees flourish.  The measure of our success is the passion our residents feel for the community and our team members for their work.

Thelma McMurray Memorial Award
This award is also sponsored by Jim McMurray. Thelma McMurray was the much loved and respected matriarch of the McMurray family. She upheld the same characteristics that are important to the YMCA today, and taught her family to be community and family minded individuals. As a tribute to her memory, her son Jim McMurray established this award to help a befitting student to pursue his/her educational dreams.
