Preschool & Youth Programs

PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS 

Child-Minding (Play Zone) – Ages 3months to 5yrs
This service included with a family membership, can be utilized by those who require care for their child(ren) while using the YMCA. Time limit: 2 hours. Come join us. There's no need to register!
Y Early Years (Ages 3mos+)
Parents/guardians of preschool aged children are welcome to come experience Y Early Years Gym and Swim program! Little ones are given the chance to grow anddevelop through active play and swim. Free for members.
Non-members come try it out for 3 free trials! Registration required.
Excluding holidays and PD days
Time: Friday Morning 9am-11am
Location: Gym/Leisure pool

Indoor Playground
Run, jump, climb and balance on a variety of age-appropriate equipment for your children to explore and play. Equipment includes indoor playground blocks, obstacle courses, parachutes and more!

Story & Craft
Join us to experience story time and get to make a story-themed craft to take home with you! A variety of children’s classic stories will be read!

Y Kinder Kids
Our most popular program for kinder kids. A chance to get creative with a variety of crafts and building or burn some energy playing active cooperative games.

Wee Fit
Children will have the opportunity to run, hop, skip, jump and play through a variety of exercises, circuits, games and activities that will help them develop the building blocks of fundamental movement.

Creative Play
A structured program offering a variety of creative activities such as crafts, dance, drama and cooperative games.

**Active Start Soccer (Registered - members only)
This program focuses on developing physical literacy at a young age. Participants will participate in many fun activities that promote positive movement and help the kids create a movement vocabulary while learning the fundamental soccer skills such as passing, shooting and ball handling.
**Active Start Basketball (Registered - members only)
This program is intended as an introduction for children to develop basic basketball skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting through different variations of drills and games.
**Y Dance (Registered - members only)
Children love to explore their creative movement in the fun environment which is filled with songs, imagination and interpretation of music. The love for dance is emphasized as basic dance moves are developmentally introduced. Flexibility, co-ordination, agility, body awareness, confidence, strength, rhythm, and style are an integral part of the techniques and are developed in these fun classes.

 

 

YOUTH PROGRAMS   

Y Mindfulness (Ages 6-12)
Come try this brand-new program that promotes healthy development in mind, body and spirt. Participate in activities that teach children about relaxation and mindfulness including, cosmic yoga, guided meditations, and more!
Y Dodgeball (Ages 6-12)
Everyone’s favourite gym game! Come and participate in a full hour program of just dodgeball games! All variations of dodgeball games will bY e explored along with warm-up and cool down activities.
All Sorts of Sports (ages 6-12)
Come and join us to play all sorts of sports! Each week a new sport is highlighted, and children will have the chance to practice the sport skills as well as play other gym games.

Creative Kids (Ages 6-12)
This program rotates through arts, crafts, drama, engineering and more! Every 4 weeks children will have the chance to discover and try a different skill!

Gym & Swim (Ages 6 -12)
Play a variety of sports and group games in a safe and friendly environment, followed by a supervised swim.
Location: Gym and leisure pool
Non-members welcome with the purchase of a Visitor’s Pass.
Run, Bike & Scooter (Ages 6 - 12 yrs)
Running and tag games, scooters and bikes! This is a fun and active program where children can play a variety of tag games, and original games that have been
transformed using scooters, bikes & more!
Indoor shoes required
Location: Gym
Non-Members welcome with the purchase of a Visitor’s Pass.

Active Kids (Ages 6 - 12 yrs)
Children can stay active with friends while participating in various gym games, sports and group activities.

Kids Night Out (Ages 6-12)
A weekly ritual with friends that includes a swim and a fun weekly themed activity. Bring a healthy peanut-free snack.
Location: Multi-Purpose Room/Leisure Pool
Members only
Make It & Take It (Ages 6-12 yrs)
With the guidance of our staff, your child will create their own artwork and crafts and will have the opportunity to show off their masterpiece to family and friends
afterwards!
Location: Multi-Purpose Room
**FUN-damental Soccer (Ages 6-8 yrs) (Registered - members only)
This program will focus on learning the game of soccer in an active and safe environment. Participants will be exposed to basic and more advanced soccer skills through a fun, age appropriate games approach. A variety of activities will be facilitated each week allowing participants to build on fundamental movement skills. Both soccer and fundamental movement skills will be applied during a scrimmage game near the end of each session.

**Y Dance (Ages 6-8 and Ages 9-12) (Registered - members only)

**Learn to Train Soccer (Ages 9-12) (Registered - members only)

**FUNdamental Basketball (Ages 6-8) (Registered - members only)
This program will focus on learning the basics of basketball in an active and safe environment. Passing, dribbling, shooting will be highlighted through different drills and games. Both basketball and fundamental movement skills will be applied during a scrimmage game near the end of each session.
**Youth Drum Beat (Ages 5-12) (Registered - members only)
Kids will get a chance to dance and beat along to their favourite songs. This 8-week cardio-based fitness program is a great way for kids to have fun while staying active!
Wellness Access for Youth (Ages 10 - 11 yrs)
When youth participate in physical activities with family it strengthens potential for healthier lifestyles long term. Youth ages 10-11 may access the Wellness Centre with a parent and/or guardian 16 years of age or older. The youth may access the cardio equipment only. The parent and/or guardian need to be engaged with the youth at all times.
Wellness Access for Youth (Ages 12 and 13)
Please note any youth between the ages of 12-13 years of age needs to take the Essentials for Youth Fitness program to learn how to safely use the wellness equipment, find out about the importance of nutrition and exercise, and have a personalized fitness program developed. You can register for this program at our front desk.
Wellness Access for Youth (Ages 14 and older)
Youth that are 14 years of age or older may access the Wellness Centre without a parent or guardian if they have completed an orientation with a wellness staff. Youth orientation is similar to the adult orientation and ensures a safe and balanced program.

 


YOUTH ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS    

At Home Alone Course (Ages 9 - 13 yrs)
This fun and active course helps prepare kids to be at home alone and how to respond to medical emergencies. Registration Required - min. group size 8, max group size 15 Members: $30 / Non-Members: $45
Friday October 25, 2019 - 9:00am-1:00pm (Full day Camp option available)

Babysitters Course (Ages 11+ yrs)
Designed to increase confidence and provide hands on experience and skills needed to be a good babysitter. This course offers basic first aid and care giving skills for youth 11-16 years old. Participants learn how to provide care to younger children in a variety of age groups and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. The course also offers youth the training to promote themselves as a babysitter to prospective parents.
Dates: Friday November 22, 2019 - 9:00am-3:00pm
