Excellence in Leadership Award
Sponsor: Virtual High School and Huron Women’s Shelter, Second Stage Housing & Counselling Services
This award is provided to recognize active leadership through service to others within the school or broader community. Ideally, the successful candidate will have put others before self, mentored others toward leadership roles, and demonstrated the skills of careful planning, sensitive listening, and the ability to write and speak well within the leadership role.
Health and Wellness Award
Sponsor: AMGH Medical Staff
The successful candidate for this award will have demonstrated an interest in promoting wellness, healthy living, and/or public recreation resulting in a positive impact on our community. Candidates showing a capacity to mentor and engage others in committing to health and recreation through active participation will be especially competitive in this award category.
Sponsor: Rotary Club of Goderich
This award recognizes a Goderich-Huron youth with a long-term significant disability who has successfully attained personal achievements and life goals despite any obstacles they may have encountered. This award celebrates an inspirational individual who has a commitment to practicing integrity on a daily basis while advocating for their own needs as well as the needs of others. The individual must provide evidence of how they have overcome barriers to achieve their personal goals, educational or otherwise, and how they have served their community through acts of volunteerism.
Personal Achievement Award
Sponsor: Barb Major-McEwan
This award has been established to recognize candidates who have prevailed over adversity in their life such as physical disabilities or difficult family circumstances. In the personal essay portion of the application, candidates for this award should indicate how they have remained courageous, and determined in the face of adversity, and have demonstrated inner strength, perseverance and optimism.

This award has been created to recognize a candidate who has identified a specific need, or shortcoming, in his/her school or community, and have responded to this need by working individually or by collaborating with others, to gather together the necessary resources (financial, human, political, etc.) in order to successfully address this particular shortcoming. In the personal essay portion of the application, the candidate for this award should indicate what particular need was addressed, what resources were pulled together, and what improvements to the life of the school, or community, resulted from his/her efforts.
Technology and Trades Award
This award has been established to recognize candidates who, having created for themselves a specific vision of their future, have established the necessary priorities, and have worked diligently toward their goal. The recipient will be recognized for a demonstrated proficiency in any apprenticeship area of skilled trades education (over 200 trades exist in fields of construction, transportation, manufacturing and service), along with a dedicated commitment to pursuing trades and technology participation beyond secondary school. The selection committee will look for related successes in both school and co-op placements.
Volunteerism and Community Service Award
Sponsor: Rotary Club of Goderich
This award has been created to recognize candidates who go above and beyond, and exemplify the true potential of volunteers to make a difference in their communities. The nominee has shown commitment to bettering their community by volunteering their time to a cause they are passionate about. In addition, nominees will demonstrate creativity, cooperation and serve as a role model for others in their community. Examples of practical successes in organizing the energies of others in constructive activities and programs to build a stronger community will be important factors in this category.
YMCA Youth Leadership Award
Sponsor: YMCA of Southwestern Ontario
The recipient of this award will be YMCA employee or volunteer, or a family member of a YMCA employee or volunteer. The recipient must demonstrate YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and inclusiveness. The recipient must also have a strong commitment to volunteerism, as well as an appreciation for the impact that the YMCA has had on them and on others.
