2017 CELEBRATION OF YOUTH SPONSORS

 AKM Logo

Akromold

Established in 1957, Akromold is a mold making facility, specializing in furnishing the rubber industry with custom designed mold tooling used in the manufacturing of parts for the automotive, aircraft, medical and industrial industries. Akromold values the importance of post secondary education in skilled trades. This award recognizes the achievements of a young individual in our community in the Tech and Trade industry.

  Barb Major-McEwan

Sponsorship is in memory of George Major (1931-2012) who lived with Parkinson’s disease for nearly three decades, as it progressively reduced his capacity to lead a full life.  Despite this he successfully celebrated his 80thbirthday.  When a disease like Parkinson’s chooses someone as a victim, the measure of that individual’s character and strength will be tested.  George chose a path where, through self-education and rigorous adherence to a treatment regime, and especially with the unfailing support of his wife of nearly 55 years, he chose not to yield to the disease.  In fact, he maintained absolute optimism that a curative treatment will eventually be found.  He provided an inspiration to his entire family.

Friends of the YMCA

The YMCA provides a positive, family-friendly environment where adults and children can become their best selves. As a YMCA member and volunteer I am proud of what this organization brings to the community and the quality of values and character it reinforces. I believe that the opportunity that the YMCA brings to our community is truly invaluable and is an asset that I will continue to support.

K2 Wind

K2 Wind is a joint venture between Pattern Energy, Axium Infrastructure Inc. and Capital Power Corporation. The 270 MW wind power facility is located in the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh (ACW) and commenced commercial operations in June 2015. Each year, the facility is expected to produce clean, renewable electricity equal to the needs of approximately 100,000 Ontario homes and contribute an estimated $450,000 in property taxes benefiting the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, Huron County and local schools. We place great importance on being an active part of the local communities where we operate facilities.

Huron Women's Shelter, Second Stage Housing & Counselling Services

This award is sponsored by the Huron Women’s Shelter, Second Stage Housing and Counselling Services, through the Carly Lomas Education Fund.  Since 1985, the organization has been providing shelter, housing, counselling, advocacy and education to women and their children who are experiencing violence of all types.  We believe that recognizing the achievements of young women in our community serves as a call to action to end violence against women.
