Newcomers Learn to Swim

Chatham-Kent YMCA hosted 16 newcomers from Chatham-Kent’s Immigration Service (Adult Language & Learning Centre) to participate in Lifesaving Society’s Swim to Survive (S2S) Family Swim program, designed to teach the essentials needed to survive an unexpected fall into deep water. Thanks to YMCA swim instructors, the newcomers also learned to roll into deep water, tread water and swim 50 metres with and without lifejackets, a tremendous accomplishment, since most had never been in a pool previously.
